Asbestos and Mesothelioma Cancer

Asbestos is the biggest work place killer today. Those who have worked with asbestos or who are regularly in contact with someone who has are at risk from asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma. All these are fatal respiratory diseases which are extremely difficult to cure. Research is being carried out in various research labs all over the USA and many pharmaceutical companies are also endeavouring to find new drugs and treatment methods.

One rare disease caused by asbestos which is becoming increasingly common is mesothelioma. Although unknown by many today, it is almost certain that awareness of this disease will be broadcasted worldwide because of its increasing occurrence in men aged between 55 and 70. Many of these men are now lodging multi million dollar lawsuits against the companies who subjected them to asbestos. Those most at risk from mesothelioma are those who have been in regular contact with asbestos dust and fibres without sufficient protection. Just a couple of months of exposure to asbestos can lead to mesothelioma 30 years later. The latency period (amount of time the disease takes to start taking effect) of mesothelioma is 30 - 50 years which is one of the reasons it is so difficult to cure because it is very difficult to tackle in its early stages. Another reason it is so difficult to cure is that its early symptoms are characteristic of many other more common diseases such as pneumonia.

Mesothelioma symptoms include:

- Chest pains - Coughing that worsens over time - Weight loss - Shortness of breath - Coughing up blood - Nausea and vomiting - Fatigue - Wheezing - Lung infection - Swollen lymph nodes - Loss of appetite

A patient will feel symptoms depending on which type of mesothelioma he or she has got. For information on the different types of mesothelioma go to: http://www.1-mesothelioma.co.uk

In the next 35 years it is estimated that over 1 million people will die from asbestos related diseases in developed countries. Most of these people will die from lung cancer and mesothelioma as these two are the most prolific asbestos related diseases.

The Different Root End Infections Root Canal Infections Affect The Body

The three main root end tooth infections are called granulomas, cysts and condensing osteitis. Granulomas and cysts, though they appear to be quite similar, have distinctly different characteristics.

Fistulas are channels that carry pus from the infection area to the outside of the face or mouth. They help the body drain away excessive amounts of pus.

Condensing osteitis is rarely mentioned as a root end infection process, but Dr. Price found its presense to be accompanied by some very specific infection related reactions.

Dr. Price made bacteriologic examinations of three different dental infection areas. To his surprise, he found, for the most part that no matter how large an involved area or how much pus was flowing, comparatively few bacteria were present. He interpreted this to mean the body's white blood cells and other defense mechanisms had good control of the infection process present.

Furthermore, in such cases he found patients to be in relatively good overall health and that they did not exhibit the expected signs and symptoms of systemic illness.

Dr. Price reasoned that the large areas of bone destruction and pus about these infected areas were not a measure of the severity of infection, so commonly believed, but were in actuality expressing the goodness of the nvolved patient's immune defense capability.

He (Dr. Price) further found that though the organisms spread locally, they did not spread to other parts of the body until the infection had persisted for a prolonged period of time.

Condensing osteitis cases proved to be quite different. This condition exhibits a very dense area of bone, sometimes with very little loss of bone at the tooth's root end.

Patient histories and in-depth studies revealed that people exhibiting condensing osteitis suffered more serious consequences from their infections. Price surmised that in such a case the patient's defense system was poor and the body was trying to wall off the infected area with dense bone in order to contain its effects.

However, the tissue as the root end was incapable of controlling the bacterial growth in these cases and consequently some bacteria escaped through the bloodstream and set up diseases in other areas.

Dr. Price also noted the teeth of such patients became more tender and painful than those cases that appeared to be more seriously involved.

These observations by Price are so diametrically opposite to the average dentist's view and comprehension of what is occurring that many will have difficulty accepting these findings, in spite of the fact they were derived from studies of 1400 patients.

Numbers of case history examples were mentioned in this chapter to lend insight into these different infections and their effects. Included was a picture of cancer of the lower jaw below the roots of three lower front teeth which appear to be a typical dental infection.

Such examples were shown to emphasize there are other dental disease conditions than those mentioned, but they represent a much smaller proportion of cases and are not indicative of the average person's experience.

The Operation Was a SuccessThe Patient Died ? 250000+ Deaths Annually

The Journal of the American Medical Association Vol. 284 July 26, 2000, published an article documenting the tragedy of Traditional Western Medicine (TWM) paradigm. The author, Dr. Barbara Starfield of Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health describes how the U.S. health care system may contribute to poor health. Doctors, she stated, are the third leading cause of death in the U.S., causing 250,000 deaths every year.

This information is a follow-up to the Institute of Medicine report December, 1999, but the data was hard to reference as it was not in peer-reviewed journal. Now it is published in JAMA which is the most widely circulated medical periodical in the world.

DEATHS PER YEAR:
1. 12,000 -----unnecessary surgery 8
2. 7,000 -----medication errors in hospitals 9
3. 20,000 ----other errors in hospitals 10
4. 80,000 ----infections in hospitals 10
5. 106,000 ---non-error, negative effects of drugs 2

250,000 deaths per year from iatrogenic--death induced in a patient by a physician's activity, manner, or therapy, especially of a complication of treatment causes--is outrageous!! Yet, the majority of people continue to trust the medical profession to 'cure' them, inspite of all the evidence to the contrary.

Dr. Starfield cites these warnings in interpreting the numbers:

?most of the data are derived from studies of hospitalized patients.

?these estimates are for deaths only and do not include negative effects that are associated with subsequent disability, discomfort or no relief from the presenting issue.

?the estimates of death due to error are lower than those in the IOM report. 1

If the higher estimates are cited, the deaths due to iatrogenic causes would range from 230,000 to 284,000. In any case, 225,000 deaths per year, constitutes the third leading cause of death in the United States, after deaths from heart disease and cancer. Even if these figures are overestimated, there is a wide margin between these numbers of deaths and the next leading cause of death (cerebrovascular disease).

Another analysis concluded that between 4% and 18% of consecutive patients experience negative effects in outpatient settings, with:

?116 million extra physician visits
?77 million extra prescriptions
?17 million emergency department visits
?8 million hospitalizations
?3 million long-term admissions
?199,000 additional deaths
?$77 billion in extra costs

The high cost of health care system is considered at a deficit, but is tolerated under the propagandized belief that better health results from more expensive care. However, evidence from a few studies indicates that as high as 20% to 30% of patients receive inappropriate and/or inadequate care. An estimated 44,000 to 98,000 among them die each year as a result of medical errors. 2

The high cost of the health care might be tolerated if it resulted in better health, but does it? Of 13 countries in a recent comparison,3,4 the United States ranks an average of 12th (second from the bottom) for 16 available health indicators. The ranking of the U.S. on several indicators was:

?13th (last) for low-birth-weight percentages
?13th for neonatal mortality and infant mortality overall 14
?11th for post neonatal mortality
?13th for years of potential life lost (excluding external causes)
?11th for life expectancy at 1 year for females, 12th for males
?10th for life expectancy at 15 years for females, 12th for males
?10th for life expectancy at 40 years for females, 9th for males
?7th for life expectancy at 65 years for females, 7th for males
?3rd for life expectancy at 80 years for females, 3rd for males
?10th for age-adjusted mortality

The poor performance of the U.S. was recently confirmed by a World Health Organization study, which used different data and ranked the United States as 15th among 25 industrialized countries.

There is a perception that the Americans behave badly by smoking, drinking, and perpetrating violence, therefore their ?bad behavior? is the cause of a poor health ranking. However, the data does not support this assertion.

The proportion of females who smoke ranges from 14% in Japan to 41% in Denmark; in the United States, it is 24% (fifth best). For males, the range is from 26% in Sweden to 61% in Japan; it is 28% in the United States (third best).

The U.S. ranks fifth best for alcoholic beverage consumption. The U.S. has relatively low consumption of animal fats (fifth lowest in men aged 55-64 years in 20 industrialized countries) and the third lowest mean cholesterol concentrations among men aged 50 to 70 years among 13 industrialized countries.

These estimates of death due to error are lower than those in a recent Institutes of Medicine report, and if the higher estimates are used, the deaths due to iatrogenic causes would range from 230,000 to 284,000.

Even at the lower estimate of 225,000 deaths per year, this constitutes the third leading cause of death in the U.S., following heart disease and cancer.

Lack of technology is certainly not a contributing factor to the U.S.'s low ranking.

?Among 29 countries, the United States is second only to Japan in the availability of magnetic resonance imaging units and computed tomography scanners per million population. 17

?Japan ranks highest on health, whereas the U.S. ranks among the lowest.

?It is possible that the high use of technology in Japan is limited to diagnostic technology not matched by high rates of treatment, whereas in the U.S., high use of diagnostic technology may be linked to more treatment.

?Supporting this possibility are data showing that the number of employees per bed (full-time equivalents) in the United States is highest among the countries ranked, whereas they are very low in Japan, far lower than can be accounted for by the common practice of having family members rather than hospital staff provide the amenities of hospital care.

The JAMA article is a momentous occasion, because the AMA seldom acknowledges any mistakes or failures in publications widely dispersed. It is noteworthy, however, the most widely used wire service in the world, Reuter's, did not pick up the article. The JAMA is the largest and one of the most respected medical journals in the entire world.

The JAMA article makes it clear that doctors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S. killing nearly a quarter million people a year. The only more common causes are cancer and heart disease. This statistic is likely to be seriously underestimated as much of the coding only describes the cause of organ failure and does not address iatrogenic causes at all. Japan has benefited from recognizing that technology is wonderful, but just because a diagnoses is made, one is not obligated to ?cut it out? or ?bomb it with chemicals.? Their health statistics reflect this aspect of their philosophy?the mental causes for physical illness and the metaphysical way to overcome the?as much of their treatment is not treatment at all, but loving care rendered in the home. 20

Emotional and spiritual sustenance and healing, not treatment, is the answer. Drugs, surgery and hospitals are rarely the answer to chronic health problems. Facilitating the God-given healing capacity that all of us have is the key. Improving the diet, exercise, and lifestyle are basic. Effective interventions for the underlying emotional and spiritual wounding behind most chronic illness are clues to maximizing health and eliminating disease.

Bird Flu: Why You Need to Worry and What You Can Do

Can Bird Flu feasibly become a pandemic? According to the Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.org), there are three conditions necessary for something to be labeled as a pandemic. There must be a new influenza strain that has little or no human immunity. This new strain must be able to infect humans and cause sickness and the new strain must spread easily and without interruption among humans. As it is, bird flu currently meets the first two criteria, but doesn?t spread from human to human on a continuing basis. Because the current strains of bird flu that can infect humans (also referred to as H5N1) do not infect many humans, we have very little immunity to it. Scientists are watching the virus since for changes and adaptations. Once it adapts well enough to spread easily from human to human, it could quite possibly become a world-wide pandemic.

What exactly is Bird Flu? Bird Flu, also call Type A (or avian) Influenza, is the general name for influenza viruses often found in wild birds worldwide ? they usually don?t get sick from it however. It is very contagious to domesticated birds and can make them sick enough to die.

How do people become infected with Bird Flu? There are many subtypes of Type A Influenza and only three of them have been found in humans at this point. Most of the people who have become infected with Bird Flu have done so as a result of direct contact with infected birds or with contaminated surfaces from the secretions of infected birds. There have been a very small number of cases where the virus has passed from human to human, but there is no record of it passing beyond one person (according to the CDC).

How serious of a disease is it? While the statistics show that over half of the people who have been diagnosed with the influenza have died from it, it is believed that these statistics are misleading. It?s possible that only the most severe cases have been diagnosed (it can only be certainly diagnosed with a lab test) so there may have been more actual cases than have been reported. Symptoms of Bird Flu include the typical influenza-like symptoms as well as eye infections, pneumonia and respiratory disease.

What can we do about Bird Flu? Right now, according to the CDC, studies have shown that the currently approved drugs used to treat human influenza do not work with the H5N1 virus that affects humans and there is currently not an effective vaccine against it. The good news it that there is a ban on imports of birds and bird products from affected countries and there have been no known incidences of people getting the virus from eating properly prepared poultry and eggs.

Obesity: A Disease With Deadly Complication

Despite a better perception regarding causes of obesity, the number of obese and overweight people is rising at an alarming rate. According to statistics presented at the 14th European Congress on Obesity, more than 300 million people worldwide are affected by obesity. Studies evaluate that obesity rates in Europe have risen 15 percent in the past ten years, while in Japan it has doubled since 1982.

The big concern among specialists is the astounding number of obese and overweight children. In the US for instance, the percentage of obese young population has tripled in the past 25 years.

Obesity is no more an aestetic problem. In some West Europe countries, up to 8 percent of total healthcare budget is related to obesity and its complications. In our days, the obese condition is tightly connected to a number of severe diseases such as diabetes, atherosclerosis and other significant health problems that are considerate causes of death.

The actual finding that excess weight is going epidemic leads to the conclusion that obesity must be recognized and treated as a disease with fatal complications. Most of the prevention efforts must target the young population because obese condition in children is close associated to certain high risks of developing heart disease, stroke and diabetes in later life.

FAQ's Relating to Crohn's Disease

When a person is first informed that he has Crohn?s Disease, he will have a lot of questions. He will be frightened and he will become depressed. Simply knowing the answers to his questions can help calm him and soothe him.

Question: Is Crohn?s Disease fatal? Am I going to die?

Answer: No, Crohn?s disease is not fatal and you aren?t going to die from it. Crohn?s is a chronic inflammation of the intestines. There can be complications, of course, but you will live a normal life doing normal things like going to school or work, marrying and having children. You simply must learn to live with the symptoms and plan your activities carefully.

Question: Does Crohn?s Disease cause Cancer or make me more susceptible to getting it?

Answer: Crohn?s Disease is not associated with cancer and does not cause it and does not make you more susceptible to getting it.

Question: How do you know if a fistula is starting to form?

Answer: A Fistula is indicated by pain and bleeding during bowel movements. A fissure (tear) develops in the lining of the anus and then inflammation causes a fistula to develop. Fistulas are a common complication of Crohn?s Disease and often become infected. Sometimes fistulas can be treated with medication, but in some may require surgery.

Question: Did I cause my Crohn?s because I?m so stressed?

Answer: There is no evidence that stress causes Crohn?s disease. However, people with Crohn?s disease sometimes experience increased stress in their lives from having to live with a chronic illness. Some people with Crohn?s disease also report that they experience a symptom flare-up when they are experiencing a stressful event or situation. People who find there is a connection between their stress level and a worsening of their symptoms, using relaxation techniques, such as slow breathing, and taking special care to eat well and get enough sleep, might help them feel better.

Bad Breath Symptoms

Bad breath is caused by the oral bacteria that are present in your mouth. Common bad breath symptoms that Halitosis sufferers experienced, include a white or yellow film on the tongue, dry mouth, bitter/sour/metallic tastes, post nasal drainage, white nodules on the tonsils, brushing and dental flossing have no effect.

People with bad breath usually observe a white or yellow film on the tongue. This is caused by the accumulation of bacteria and nasal mucous and tends to be heaviest in the later areas of the tongue. For most patients, simply removing this film does not completely eliminate bad breath. The anaerobic bacteria that are responsible for the odorous smell of your mouth are found throughout the entire mouth and in the saliva.

Dry mouth is a common bad breath symptom and is the main causes of halitosis. Chronic dry mouth or xerostomia causes several changes to occur in the mouth. For one, the bacteria become more concentrated in the saliva and tend to evaporate sooner into the air. If this happens, bad breath becomes stronger and more obvious at greater distance. The drying of the mouth alters the pH or acid/base balance of the mouth providing an environment conducive to the oral bacterial growth. Dry mouth usually results in a metallic taste or bitter taste in the mouth.

It is common for people with bad breath to complain bad tastes in their mouths. Familiar descriptions are sour tastes, bitter or metallic taste. These tastes are usually the result of drainage from the sinus, medications being taken, dry mouth conditions, dental infections, leaking dental restorations, and certain oral bacteria. The reduction of salivary flow can result in bad breath condition.

Post nasal drainage is frequently a result of sinus conditions and allergies. It is a thick mucous that drips in the posterior region of the throat from the sinus regions, resulting to a frequent clearing of throat for people with bad breath condition. A person may not be aware that mild form of allergies can result in a mild drainage of mucous. Mucous typically contains large amount of bacteria and proteins from the sinus. These proteins are broken down to amino acids that anaerobic bacteria feed upon and in turn produce foul smelling wastes.

White nodules that are secreted from the tonsils are one of bad breath symptom. Usually, most people do not know about these because they are swallowed not knowingly. Due to the bad odor of these nodules, they tend to assumed as the reasons of their bad breaths.

If brushing and dental flossing your teeth make no difference in reducing halitosis, this can be a sigh of bad breath condition. Loss of self confidence and self esteem can also be a sign that you have bad breath. Most of the patients complained about their insecurities due to their halitosis condition.

Animals Humans and Lyme Disease

You may think that the transmission of Lyme disease is very simple ? you get it from a deer tick bite. That information is essentially true, and if you just want to avoid Lyme disease, that?s all you really need to know. What goes on in the woods, however, is interesting, and it helps to explain why Lyme disease is spreading and becoming more common.

Lyme transmission starts with the White-footed mouse, a common forest creature that carries Borrelia burgdorferi, the organism responsible for Lyme disease. In the most common scenario, newly hatched larval Ixodes sp. ticks feed on the mice and become infected with the organism. The ticks then develop through a nymphal stage to an adult tick, feeding on other hosts as they get older.

At both the nymph and adult stage, ticks are found clinging to the tall grasses in open forests and forest edges, the same type of environment favored by White-tailed Deer. When a deer wanders by, the ticks climb on and take another blood meal. If it?s a human that wanders by, or a dog, a raccoon, or even a bird, the tick is not fussy ? deer ticks will readily feed on all of these hosts as well as other warm blooded animals.

Borrelia burgdorferi gets passed on to the new host as the tick feeds. Many animals aren?t affected by the organism and their immune systems simply kill it. White-tailed deer and some bird species are among the lucky animals that don?t get Lyme disease. Humans, however, can suffer a long and debilitating illness.

Deer are responsible for supporting large numbers of ticks; one deer can have hundreds of ticks feeding on it at any one time. Anyone who has driven the roads of North Eastern North America at dusk and dawn in the summer months knows that the White-tailed deer population is booming like never before. Deer graze by the roadsides and wander into cities and gardens. Lots of deer means lots of ticks, and deer in human communities means Lyme transmission to humans.

Deer don?t spread Lyme disease over large geographical distances however ? birds do that. When a deer tick bites a bird, two things can happen: if the bird is already infected, having been bitten by an infected tick somewhere else, the new tick becomes infected and can spread the organism to other hosts. If the tick is already infected and the bird is not, the organism gets passed the other way, and because ticks take days to finish their meal, both tick and bird can be many miles away from their starting point before the tick drops off. Both can now continue to Lyme transmission. Migrating birds are thought to have spread B. burgdorferi to many new locales.

A final factor to consider is global warming. Warmer climates have opened up new territory for deer ticks, and they are now surviving and reproducing in areas where they were previously unable to withstand cold winter temperatures. Thus, ticks carried in on migrating birds are more and more likely to survive the trip.

Keep Your Heart Healthy

Heart disease is the number one killer today. Men and women are both likely to become victims. Men typically suffer more heart attacks, but women?s can be deadlier, so it is important for both genders to monitor their heart health by making a number of simple lifestyle adjustments.

1.Eat smart. The American Heart Association and other health organizations, as well, publish guidelines for sensible diets that promote heart health. Get a copy at their website or ask your doctor to recommend a diet for you. Typically, you should try to limit your consumption of red meat to perhaps a few ounces once or twice a week. Cook chicken and fish in casserole dishes instead, and experiment with vegetable recipes to try new and exciting variations. Don?t forget the raw veggies with low-fat dip and fresh fruits for desserts or snacks.

2.Watch your fluid intake. Most of us don?t drink enough water each day. Unless you have special medical restrictions, aim to have eight glasses (eight ounces each) of water daily. In addition, you can drink other beverages, but avoid sugary, nutrition-less products like pop or sweetened fruit juice. One or two cups of tea or coffee are probably all right, but keep in mind that caffeine can dehydrate you and make you jittery, so limit your intake.

3.Get daily exercise. Your doctor can recommend a hobby, routine, or workout that will benefit your physique and health. Walking at a moderate pace for 30 to 60 minutes daily is a great way to incorporate aerobic activity in your lifestyle, tone muscles, and enhance your metabolism. Your circulation will thank you, too, as it becomes more efficient at pumping blood through your body and breaking up plaque buildup in your arteries, thus allowing your heart to pump more easily. Just be sure to wear appropriate footwear and clothing, and don?t overdo it. Let your doctor know if you experience shortness of breath or painful limbs.

4.Learn to manage stress. Everyone experiences stressful events throughout their day. From getting up late to missing the train or having an argument with a family member, stress is all around us. We just have to learn to keep conflict and disappointments in check by reminding ourselves of the blessings and joys that surround us, often unnoticed. You may want to keep a journal to write about negative feelings instead of keeping them bottled up inside, where they may eventually explode.

In addition, cultivate a good support group of friends, family members, and social contacts. Get out and have fun. Meet new people and discover new ideas. Life will become more enjoyable, and your heart will benefit from your upbeat attitude. Consider volunteering in your community to make a difference in the lives of others. As you make new connections and continue to nurture old ones, you will feel healthier and benefit from a positive lifestyle.

Protect Yourself Against the Flu Vaccine!

The vaccine industry insists that their vaccines against the flu serve as the key to a healthy winter. Although there has not been a serious flu epidemic for 38 years, their vaccines are prescribed to millions of people each year. You may wonder why perfectly healthy people are injected with a normally harmless bug whose strains mutate from year to year? Although flu vaccines can never be accurate, encouraged by their employers, millions of employees submit to a flu jab each year, trying to avoid the loss of working days.

Influenza always starts in the Far East, and then spreads to the West in early winter, reaching its peak during February and March. It may come in either of three types, A, B, or C. During the last several years, type A has been the dominant version. What makes vaccination against the flu so unsuccessful is that the strains of the flu virus are different every year and the so-called protection lasts for only six months. So each autumn you require a new vaccination for a different virus. The trouble is, drug companies have no way of knowing in summer which new strain of the flu virus is going to hit the Western Hemisphere during the winter months. The vaccine producers grow the vaccines, consisting of live viruses, in hen?s eggs, which when injected into the body can cause side effects such as redness and soreness at the injection site and a mild form of flu. Very serious complications arise in people who are taking immune-suppressing drugs or who have a heart condition. If you are allergic to eggs, having a flu-shot may also endanger your health.

For the average healthy person, coming down with the flu is not serious at all. On the contrary, it can build up natural immunity even against future encounters with new strains of the flu virus. The very reason why nature creates these new forms of virus every year and spreads them with accurate timing is to ensure continued ecological balance and strong immunity in plants, animals, and humans alike. Anyone prone to repeated infections is likely to have a toxic liver with many hundreds of stones accumulated in the liver and gallbladder. Gallstones, which harbor many types of infectious bacteria and viruses, are a constant source of immune suppression. Cleansing the liver of all gallstones is about the best prevention against any type of infection. People who have cleansed their liver in this way have reported that they never catch a cold or the flu anymore.

Flu virus vaccines used until 2002 contained ?live? viruses and produced so many serious, adverse reactions that new vaccines had to be concocted. The new formula for flu vaccines is called the ?subvirion,? which basically is a mutilated virus ?blended, spliced and macerated? until just bits and pieces of the original virus are left. This in no way makes the virus less dangerous. In fact, the antigens or foreign proteins in the vaccine, for which the body is forced to produce antibodies against, are still as poisonous and harmful as live virus.

Besides the subvirion, there are plenty of other substances added to the flu vaccine, most of which you would never want to consciously ingest. These include:

* Hemagglutinin antigens that cause clumping of the red blood cells, leading to cardiovascular disease. * The enzyme neuraminidase, which cuts out neuraminic acid from the cell membrane, weakening all of the trillions of cell membranes in the body. * White crystalline substance called allantoin, a toxic animal waste product. Due to its high nitrogen content, allantoin is used as fertilizer; leads to kidneys and bladder stones. * Gentamicin, a broad spectrum antibiotic, is added to each embryonated chicken egg to inhibit the growth of bacteria (vaccine is grown in chicken eggs). * Formaldehyde (carcinogenic), used as a preservative and to inactivate the virus. * The toxic chemicals, tri butylphosphate and Polysorbate 80, USP. * Resin, to eliminate ?substantial portions? of tri butylphosphate and Polysorbate 80 * Thimerosal, a mercury derivative, to preserve the vaccine cocktail. * Polyethylene glycol, a relative of ethylene glycol (antifreeze); often used to poison dogs and other predators of sheep. * Isocctylphenyl ether, a compound of ether; has anesthetic properties; a teratogen, causing abnormal prenatal development. It also induces testicular atrophy in animals.

The vaccine producers are unable to guarantee that the vaccine will protect you against the flu. So they carefully tell you that the vaccine ?reduces the likelihood of infection; or if you do develop the disease it will be a milder case.? Some express the same uncertainly about their product in this way: ?It is known definitely that influenza virus vaccine, as now constituted, is not effective against all possible strains of influenza virus.? Why would you want to entrust your health to a cocktail of poisonous chemicals when even a somewhat weakened immune system stands a far better chance to protect you against harm from a bout of influenza. Our body?s sophisticated immune system, which has evolved over millions of years, can certainly do a better job of protecting you against the flu than anything made-made. All it needs is some basic care taking on your part. With each new flu shot, on the other hand, your immune system becomes more depleted and side-effects become more pronounced and severe. And, you may still get the flu anyway. The following list includes the possible consequences you can expect if you go down the road of vaccination:

The most frequent side effects of vaccination:

* Soreness at the site of the vaccination *Pain or tenderness * Erythema * Inflammation *Skin discoloration * Induration * A mass or lump *Hypersensitivity reactions incl. puritus and urticaria * Fever * Malaise *Myalgia *Arthralgia *Asthenia *Chills * Headache *Lymphadenopathy *Rash * Nausea * Vomiting * Diarrhea * Pharyngitis *Angiopathy *Vasculiltis * Anaphylaxis in asthmatics, with possible death * Anaphylactic shock, with possible death

Vaccination certainly does not create immunity. You cannot become immune by ingesting poisons that destroy the immune system. Studies by a group of Italian scientists showed that the flu vaccine reduced the occurrence of clinical episodes of influenza by only 6 percent in adults, and effectiveness tended to decrease with age. They concluded that universal immunization wasn't warranted. Stated simply, hand washing and other hygienic and nutritional measures are far superior to the flu vaccine in effectiveness. When cared for hygienically, and by eating nutritious foods and keeping one?s intestines and liver clean, influenza never becomes a deadly disease. Getting vaccinated against the flu, on the other hand, is a sure way to sow the seeds for new illnesses in the body. All vaccines are poisonous, and as such act like time bombs that will explode in due time.

Why People Get the Flu

Flu jabs lower natural immunity by injecting alien and toxic substances directly into the blood stream. No other animal in the world takes recourse t such unnatural, superficial and crude means to defend itself against invading viruses. The normal route of contact with a viral particle is via the lungs. The vast majority of the population has a normal, healthy immune system and is perfectly capable of dealing with the invaders without getting sick. But if the body?s infection fighters have temporarily gone ?on strike? for reasons other than the lack of a vaccine, the flu virus can gain unrestricted access into the body and cause an infection.

Regular vaccination (of any kind) is one of the major causes of depleted immunity. The yearly-administered flu jabs burden the immune system and cells of the body with foreign toxic material without giving them a chance to remove them again. The toxic viral particles can remain latent in the cells and gallstones for as long as 20 years; when they emerge they can cause serious cell damage. With each new vaccination the immune system becomes more and more restricted in its effort to neutralize the live virus that suddenly appears in the blood. It may produce antibodies for the virus (although in many cases the immune system fails to do even that), which is finally subdued, but this encounter leaves the host?s immune system unnecessarily tired and weak.

Besides immune damage, vaccines of all kinds produce alterations in genetic material and thereby cause a whole range of malfunctions in the body. Vaccines may even be the cause of the increasing incidence of malignant diseases in children. Mass immunization programs have created such weak immune systems that they are even susceptible to such harmless viruses as the one causing the flu. We may have gone as far as to replace mumps and measles with cancer, leukemia, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Flu vaccinations are mainly targeted at the older generation and young children. In the United Kingdom, about 10,000 people, most of them are of very advanced age, (supposedly) die from flu-related illnesses. It may, therefore, sound reasonable to vaccinate the older people to protect them against the flu virus. But there is no total protection even among those vaccinated. Around 20 percent or more of the elderly people who get the vaccine still get a more virulent strain of flu, and many others get a lighter form of the flu. The same is true for the people in the same age group who haven?t been immunized. The weak and elderly people are more likely among those who die from the flu, regardless whether they have been immunized or not. The bottom line is that there is no real advantage in having a flu jab. And certainly, given the frailty of so many of the oldest members of society, there is absolutely no reliable way of telling whether the flu or something else may lead to their death. According to several studies released in February 2005 and reported by major news media such as CNN, the death rate in and out of the flu season among the elderly remains unchanged. In a statement commenting on the results of the new research, a CDC spokesman reiterated they still hold the strong belief that vaccinating the elderly and young is necessary. It is scary to entrust the life of millions of adults and children in the hands of people who base their decisions on mere personal belief, instead of on facts. As we have seen with AIDS (chapter 12), statistics can be manipulated in ways that support theories which have only one objective, to keep the medical business going. When a person who is about to die anyway also catches the flu, he will be automatically listed as a flu victim. This statistical deception will justify the use of vaccines in the rest of the elderly population, and the children.

Instead of giving the elderly population vaccines ? in the misguided belief that this would take care of them ? we could help them much more by improving their general resistance to disease through good diet, social engagements and exercise programs. Many old people don?t have adequate nutrition and suffer from depression; both these factors work as powerful immune suppressants. Others don?t have a warm home or they live alone. Research has shown that these are the major risk factors for illness and death in the older generation. A series of liver cleanses alone can strengthen natural immunity, improve digestion, retard the aging process, restore health, and foremost of all, enhance mental functions. In developing countries, where the elderly play an important role in society, general illness is low, provided there is enough food available. In these countries it is more likely that old people die from malnutrition than from a strain of virus.

There are an increasing number of reports that indicate a worsening of high blood pressure, diabetes, gout, and Parkinson?s disease as well as an increase in all kinds of allergic complaints in adults who regularly receive flu jabs. In 1976 an extensive flu vaccination program in America led to a massive outbreak of Guillain-Barre syndrome, a disease affecting the nervous system. The outbreak, known as the ?Great Swine Flue Fiasco,? paralyzed 656 people and 30 elderly persons were found dead within hours after they were vaccinated. Compensation claims were enormous, which helped slowing down the program, but only for a while.

What about the other high-risk group, young children? Japanese researchers have shown that infants under one year of age fail to even generate a good antibody response following the vaccine. There is no point pumping children full with vaccine poisons, except enriching the pharmaceutical companies. Seniors, of course, are one of the core target groups for the flu vaccine program. So every year we're told how older people are particularly vulnerable to the flu. We're also told that government officials are holding their breath over their fear of a devastating flu pandemic. We're even told that about 36,000 people die of flu related complications in the United States each year, and most of those deaths are elderly people. The reality of the matter is quite different, though. How many people do you think died of the flu last year? Less than 175, according to Sherri J. Tenpenny, D.O., an internationally known leader in vaccine research! And yet, the official line propagated by media campaigns is to be prepared for another wave of deadly flu epidemic, killing thousands of people each new season.

The latest scare campaign about a possible bird-flu pandemic that recently swept the mass media and was written about in the a February issue of the New Yorker magazine is not justified, according to most research experts in the field. That 180 million people are projected to die from the bird-flu if it spreads is based on guess work, without any real scientific proof. It is like forecasting the long-awaited massive earthquake in California. At this time, there is no reason to believe that such a pandemic will occur.

In the Name of Prevention

The pharmaceutical companies producing the vaccines seem to have a more powerful effect on the population than the scientists have who invented them. As early as 1980, Dr Albert Sabin, one of the world?s leading virologists and pioneer of the polio vaccine, spoke vehemently against the use of the flu vaccine, claiming that it was unnecessary for over 90 percent of the population. This, however, has not discouraged the vaccination industry to endorse vaccination for all in the name of health and protection against disease.

What makes matters worse is that there has never been a properly controlled clinical trial with the flu vaccine. Because we don?t know anything about it?s its long-term effects, we may be unknowingly producing generations of people with debilitated immune systems and chronic diseases. Flu vaccination is an unproved and unscientific practice and there is nothing in the scientific literature that can certify or guarantee its safety. The most effective way to fight infections, including the flu, is to prevent it. There is no substitute for a health-increasing regimen. Vaccination, on the other hand, offers no real protection. Injecting the body with foreign and poisonous viral material is counterproductive to improving our well being. Dr. John Seal from the American National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases warned that we have to assume that every flu vaccination can cause the Guillain-Barre Syndrome. In this sense, prevention is not better than cure.

Help From Mother Nature

For those who are concerned about the flu and its possible effects, there is a remarkable herbal extract (andrographis paniculata) that has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic (traditional Indian) therapies and traditional Chinese Medicine. It is used to treat everything from isolated cases of the sniffles to full-blown outbreaks of influenza. Apparently, Andrographis is believed to have halted the spread of the 1919 Indian flu pandemic.

There is scientific evidence to support that theory. Researchers at the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth in the UK conducted a survey of medical databases, herbal manufacturer information and World Health Organization reports to select seven studies that met the criteria for double-blind, controlled trials. The combined studies tested the use of andrographis as a treatment for respiratory tract infection in nearly 900 subjects. In all seven of these studies, subjects who took andrographis after the onset of cold symptoms reported faster recovery, compared to subjects who took placeboes or medication.

Researchers concluded that andrographis may be effective in treating uncomplicated infection in the upper respiratory tract (throat, sinuses and ears). According to previous laboratory trials andrographis extract doesn't actually kill the organisms that make you sick ? at least not directly. Instead, the herbal compound boosts your immune system and stimulates natural antibodies.

Animal research also showed that andrographis may help prevent myocardial ischemia (inadequate blood circulation in the heart caused by coronary artery disease), inhibit the formation of blood clots, lower blood sugar levels in diabetics, lowered systolic blood pressure, and protect the liver against damage.

Kan Jang is a brand of standardized extract of andrographis that has consistently outsold all other cold medications in Scandinavia for 13 years running. The Swedish Herbal Institute, the formulator of Kan Jang, recommends that you take one tablet four times daily to fight colds or the flu. Kan Jang can be purchased at dietary supplement stores and through Internet sites.

A Few Reasons to Workout

An exercise routine is important for keeping healthy and in good shape. Many people want to workout but can?t seem to find the time or motivation. This is nonsense! There?s always time, you just need to prioritize. Wake up thirty to sixty minutes earlier every morning. Go for a walk during your lunch hour, or park your car further away from the office. There?s always time for exercise; you just have to be willing to cut into your personal time.

Motivation is a whole other issue, not that you should need a reason to get off the couch and do something healthy. Perhaps some of the reasons listed here will be enough for you to incorporate a workout routine into your lifestyle.

1.Your clothes will fit better. When you work out, you not only lose weight but inches as well. Soon you?ll be able to breathe much easier while wearing blue jeans, which by the way aren?t as snug anymore.
2.Your physical appearance will improve. Your cheeks will be rosy, you?ll have fewer chins and you?ll exude healthiness.
3.It improves your balance and coordination. No one likes a klutz anyway.
4.It will enhance your sexual performance. Need I say more?
5.You?ll sleep better. You?ll also be more relaxed and in a better mood.
6.Daily workouts boost your self-esteem. There?s nothing wrong with a positive outlook.
7.It reduces your risk of heart disease. This should be reason enough.
8.You?ll be more likely to survive a heart attack.
9.Reduces the risk of developing high blood pressure. No one wants that.
10.In older individuals, it can actually improve short-term memory.

Hopefully these reasons are enough to convince you to add a workout routine to your schedule. It doesn?t have to entail hours of heavy lifting at the gym. Go for a long walk, swim or bike ride. Take karate or kayaking lessons. Find some activities that interest you and get moving. Your body will thank you.

High Blood Pressure: 10 Tips That Could Save Your Life!

When most people are told they have high blood pressure (or Hypertension) it comes as quite a shock. With many people being diagnosed between the ages of 25-45, it is fast becoming a great concern for both the individual and their young families.

The problem is, it has no early symptoms. You feel good, life?s great. Yes, you may be a little unfit and you could eat better, but generally you feel fine.

If you?re lucky, you?ll get a warning. Some people will have dizzy spells whilst for others the early warning comes as a mild heart attack. If you are one of the lucky ones who get the warning, don?t take it lightly.

Hypertension is part of the collective term ?Cardiovascular Disease?. Cardiovascular Disease encompasses high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart failure, and stroke. It is the biggest killer in the western world with 696,947 deaths in 2002 in the US alone.

When blood pressure is measured, you get two numbers: the Systolic (top number), and the Diastolic ( bottom number). Of most concern is the diastolic reading. A reading of 80-90 is now considered ?pre-hypertension?. This means that you?re not in danger yet but it would be a good idea to start modifying your lifestyle. If your diastolic blood pressure is over 90, then you have high blood pressure and you should get medical advice immediately. Getting on top of it early can make all the difference.

The 10 Tips for Reducing Blood Pressure

High Blood Pressure can be reduced significantly and quickly through making minor adjustments to your lifestyle. Until then, these guidelines should be followed:

    1. Have regular medical checks, especially if you are over 40, overweight, smoke, or lead an inactive lifestyle.

    2. Start an exercise program. Obtain a medical clearance prior to starting.

    3. The exercise program must be gradual, regular and aerobic in nature (walking/cycling). Start by walking 5 days per week, for 10-20 minutes. Something as simple as walking 10 minutes per day can reduce blood pressure to the extent where medication is no longer required.

    4. Give up smoking (or at least cut down!). Giving up smoking has been proven to be the greatest single factor in improving your health fast.

    5. Eliminate salt from your diet. As salt travels through the body it draws fluid out of the blood vessels, which in turn increases blood pressure.

    6. Avoid isometric exercises. These are exercises where you exert force against an immovable object (eg, trying to lift something really heavy). You generally hold your breath whilst doing this, and that will make your blood pressure skyrocket.

    7. Avoid sudden changes in temperature as this too can increase blood pressure and put extra strain on a weak heart.

    8. Never lift anything above the head. It doesn?t matter whether its weights, or a can of baked beans. In fact, I know a person who has to sit down to wash his hair because his blood pressure rises whenever he raises his arms up!

    9. Focus on your breathing throughout any lifting or stretching as holding your breath will increase blood pressure.

    10. Don?t use pulse rate as a direct measure of exercise intensity if blood pressure medications are being used, as these can decrease pulse rate significantly.

High blood pressure does not have to be a death sentence. Give it the respect it deserves and it just may turn out to be a positive turning point. The start of the new (fit and healthy) you!

A Look At Acid Reflux Treatment

Heartburn is a by-product of digestion, specifically affecting the esophagus and the stomach. The esophagus is a tube that delivers food into the stomach, and it has a valve that opens and closes to allow food in and to keep it down during digestion. This valve can become lax or get overwhelmed by too much food or too much acid. This condition causes stomach acids to reflux or spill back up through the valve onto the esophagus, fanning flames of discomfort within the center of the chest.

Is there an acid reflux cure? Yes and no. Yes, because it can be treated effectively and relieved, but also no, because researchers have yet to find a root cause and it can always come back. Acid reflux treatment regimens include medications, lifestyle changes, and stress management. Depending on severity, acid reflux can be curbed with as little as only a few behavioral modifications such as quitting smoking and eating better to powerful acid reflux medication treatments under a physician?s supervision.

Acid Reflux Medication

Acid reflux medication strategies vary in how they defend against heartburn. With serious, recurrent heartburn, a physician may recommend acid reflux medications to include histamine antagonists that suppress acid secretions triggered by histamine and gastrin. You could also be prescribed proton pump inhibitors, a newer compound designed to block the last step in acid production. Prokinetic agents make up another group that, unlike the first two, does not block or suppress acid production, but instead aims to increase the pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter, helping to push food through faster.

Acid Reflux Relief

In many cases, lifestyle alterations can provide a great deal of acid reflux relief like changing your diet, quitting smoking, sitting up after meals, and learning to manage stress. Exercise is also highly effective in relieving acid reflux because it aids in speeding digestion and stifles one of the peskiest acid reflux culprits?being overweight. Also check out specialized pillows, shaped into wedges that help keep your head higher than your stomach so that acid stays where it should while you sleep.

Others opt for natural herbal remedies found in health food stores. These herbal remedies tout all-natural ingredients that relieve heartburn symptoms and tend to be milder than medical treatments. Prescription medications are the most aggressive acid reflux treatments and are designed to provide relief for those who suffer from serious, chronic heartburn or acid reflux disease.

You may have to try more than one or a combination of relief strategies in order to find out which is the most effective for you. Remember to consult your physician on any medical concern, and always keep educated and proactive when it comes to your health.

Guide to Nutrition and Gum disease

Gum disease or periodontal disease inflicts over half of the adult population. This common oral problem develops from the buildup of plaque, where harmful bacteria reside. Bacteria in plaque causes infection of the gums making them swell, easy to bleed when you brush, and appear red. This is the first stage of gum disease more commonly known as gingivitis.

Gingivitis is often painless which makes it unnoticeable. This result in a gum disease called periodontitis, a worse infection where bacteria corrode the bone structures that support teeth, giving way to tooth loss. At this stage, the patient may notice swelling in the gums as well as bleeding, sores and discharge. The patient most likely suffers bad breath and pain in the gums.

Several causes of gum disease include poor oral hygiene, smoking, excessive alcohol intake, and nutrition deficiency.

What is the link between nutrition and gum disease?

Our body needs adequate amounts of nutrients to combat infection, such as gum diseases. To strengthen the immune system, a person?s diet should include plenty of antioxidants such as vitamin C and flavonoids. The diet should also include other essential nutrients that are particularly helpful in fighting gum disease such as calcium.

Some types of food promote the growth of bacteria and this fact shows how nutrition and gum disease is related. Foods rich in sugar and starch and sticky foods contribute to bacteria buildup.

Here is a quick guide on proper nutrition and gum disease prevention:

Go for whole foods, which offer many nutrients instead of processed or refined foods Limit your sugar consumption by avoiding snacks such as pastries, cakes, soft drinks and sweetened fruit juices. Always include fiber in your diet such as whole grain bread and cereals, broccoli, peas, and fruits like pears and oranges Get enough supply of vitamin C, flavonoids, vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin D, vitamin B-complex, Co-enzyme Q10, calcium, potassium, selenium, magnesium, zinc, iron and phosphorus. Enhance your diet with health supplements

To prevent gum disease effectively, proper nutrition should go together with proper dental care. Always remember to brush your teeth at the least two times every day, rinse your mouth with water or a good mouth rinse after meals, floss your teeth once a day, and schedule regular checkups with your dentist.

Nutrition and gum disease treatment

The combination of proper nutrition and gum disease treatment is vital because while proper nutrition does not actually treat gum disease, it significantly helps in speeding up the process of healing and preventing recurrences.

Crohns Disease and Diet

If you have been reading up on modern health research you would have found plenty of information as to the influence of diet on a host of medical concerns. This is especially true when dealing with Crohn?s Disease. In fact, the importance of a regulated diet can be the difference between managing Crohn?s Disease and keeping it in check or falling victim to its more serious consequences.

Remember, changing your diet to a Crohn?s friendly one will not cure you of the disease. It will, however, limit the flare-ups ? in both regularity and severity ? and help you feel better. In terms of diet, Crohn?s Disease is very fickle. Since the disease plays havoc on the digestive tract, it is important that not only do you change what you eat, but also how you eat it. The higher quantity of food you ingest the more chance you have of difficulties with the disease. It is recommended that instead of eating a few large meals per day, you should have several smaller meals. Try not to give your digestive tract so much to do at once. This will help ease the effects of Crohn?s Disease.

Furthermore, you must make sure to consume the proper amount of vitamins and minerals on a daily basis. Failure to do so can result in other problems. This is important because diarrhea and constipation are symptoms of Crohn?s and can prevent your body from maintaining the proper nutritional fortification to ensure healthy functioning.

In addition to eating right, it is important that you keep your body fully hydrated. Not only is consuming fluids important to manage your Crohn?s, fluids can also help you detoxify which can lead to improved health. Drinking water is perhaps the best step in keeping yourself hydrated ? aim for 8 glasses a day.

The diet for those with Crohn?s should include a healthy balance of protein, carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables, and just tiny amounts of fats. Keeping your diet high in fiber is probably the best bet because it influences your body?s ability to maintain regular bowel movements. The best source for Crohn?s fighting protein is apparently fish. Oily fish also has the added benefit of supplying Omega-3 oils. If you are not a fan of fish you can get Omega-3 oils through various supplements.

There are also many foods that sufferers of Crohns?s Disease should avoid like the plague. People diagnosed with Crohn?s should stay away from dairy products as much as possible. In addition, avoiding foots with saturated fats, Brassica vegetables, corn or gluten products, and alcohol and caffeine can help reduce the severity and regularity of Crohn?s Disease.

Those with Crohn?s often react differently to the disease. It is a good idea to keep a food diary so you can track your reactions to various foods. This is a great way to find out which foods work for you and those that cause complications.

Memory Loss in Alzheimer's Disease

Do you know your date of birth? The name of the President or Prime Minister? These are questions that are regularly used to test for memory loss ? the first symptom of Alzheimer's disease.

Although memory loss occurs in all cases of Alzheimer's disease, it can be difficult to detect in the early stages as many patients manage to cover it up well during tests as a matter of pride.

It's the recent things we've done such as in the last hours, days or even weeks that are the first memories to be lost in Alzheimer's patients.

However, while those things that are placed in our short term memory are the first to go it's only much later as the Alzheimer's condition has become much more severe does the past or longer term memory become affected.

This makes the degree or memory loss a very useful tool in assessing the presence and scope of the disease as if the patient is co-operative and asked in a pleasant way the results can be very revealing.

The following ten questions form part of a common test as they cover both the short and the long term memory and also test for orientation as well.

How old are you?

What is your date of birth?

What day is it today?

What month are we in?

What year is it?

When was the first world war?

What is the name of the President / Prime Minister?

Where are you now?

Can you please count backwards from 20 to 1?

Tell them an address, then ask them to repeat it back to you after five minutes.

Although the test is deceptively easy it is also very useful as it's quick, cheap, non-evasive and helps diagnose Alzheimer's disease or dementia and gives an indication of the areas in the patient's memory that may be affected.

Care must always be taken as a low score on its own doesn't prove dementia or Alzheimer's disease, as not all people will know all the answers to the questions!

Instead it's a guide or an indication that something may be wrong and requires further investigation.

The Insidiousness of Breast Cancer and Its Current Treatment

In our modern world, the benefits that today?s manufacturing and agricultural activities have brought us is more than painfully offset by the damage to our personal health and wellness. During the course of our daily lives, we are continually exposed to common household products such as detergents, insulation, fabric treatments, flame retardants, cosmetics, paints, upholstery preservatives, and coatings for electronic equipment. When these chemicals accumulate within our bodies, they distribute into body fluids as well.

While it is painfully clear that we may find such toxic chemicals as fire retardants in the breast milk of Americans who unsuspectingly ingest these and unhealthy levels of many other of toxins form the air they breath, the water they drink, and the food they eat, then it is obvious that our drive for cultural, technological, and scientific advancement has taken a wrong turn somewhere along the way. The chemicals we have produced and utilized in the modern era have had many negative effects upon various human body organ systems and have caused many health problems that will have serious implications far into the future. Data from recent explorations into these issues suggest that all of us are at risk of developing serious diseases from long-term exposure to these chemicals that we had hoped would improve our lives. Our synthetic chemicalization of planet Earth, in the past 60 years, is showing up as a body burden that is a physical tragedy and a fiscal catastrophe. Nowhere are these terrifying results more evident than in today?s battles with breast cancer.

The link between toxins in our environment and diseases like breast cancer showing up in our populations is one about which there is little debate as to the cause and effect relationship. While media, political, and health watch organizations warn of the danger associated with large doses of synthetic chemicals within the living environments of human populations, it is apparent that even very low doses of certain chemicals can harm a developing fetus or newborn infant. Small amounts of lead, mercury or PCBs in amounts that would not harm adults readily damage the developing nervous system, causing defects that appear later on. While the general health of an individual is a factor in who is more susceptible to developing diseases from the exposure to toxic chemicals in the environment, the fact that breast cancer is claiming its victims from women both young and old, makes this situation all the more deplorable. We need to take a fresh look at not only the disease itself, but also at what may be alternatives to the current treatment of this abomination.

Since it is obvious that government, with its bureaucratic pace of environmental protection reform and industry with its millions of dollars spent lobbying against regulations that would impact the manufacture of their toxic products despite the obvious health concerns, will not solve this problem in the immediate future; we then, must take responsibility for our own health and wellness with education and pro-active prevention and treatment strategies. Since the current treatment methods, which have produced little to indicate real progress over the past thirty years, are the very essence of barbarism, we must seek out alternative ways of prevention and treatment, and help to bring them into the accepted mainstream of health care practices. We must also work to help ban dangerous chemicals and take immediate steps to protect ourselves from unnecessary exposure to those chemicals that we know to be harmful and contributory to the development of chronic and degenerative diseases.

The current medical practices to treat breast cancer seem more like torturous mayhem that therapeutic intervention. And is it any wonder when doctors and medical students alike get most of their primary, secondary, and continuing education funded, to a large degree by the megalithic pharmaceutical industry, the very authors and purveyors of drastic and toxic medical intervention procedures. This situation is all the more dreadful when it is pointed out that these increasingly toxic and experimental measures lead to future complications and the susceptibility to the premature development of other chronic diseases. This preoccupation with burning with radiation, poisoning with toxins, and slicing and dicing cancer is an appalling state of affairs that must end now. If you believe that current medical interventions do anything but dehumanize cancer victims, then perhaps you will want to go to your local video rental store and check out a movie by the name of ?WIT?. That our bodies are nothing more than test tubes to those involved in the current cancer treatment methodologies is dramatically illustrated by this fine film. And just when current medical practitioners will leave this seemingly medieval torture seen behind is not immediately apparent.

Imagine if you will that a woman is called into her doctor?s office to review the results of her previous examination. The doctor looks at the images on the films that were taken and declares that he sees the shadow of something that could be deadly cancer and as a result has scheduled surgery within 24 hours. Before she even has a chance for the shock and terror to take hold, she is reeling with the realization that she will be going under the knife in less than a day and will never be the same again. Don?t kid yourself. This has been and is happening. This is a strategy designed to prevent you from stepping outside of the box of current medical interventions for the treatment of cancer, taking a deep breath, and processing this information in the new light of other possible courses of action. You may, after all, discover that you have other viable alternatives to choose from in this instance. The probable fact of the matter is that a health care provider, who rushes to execute such measures, would not be quite so eager to cut off the breast of his wife or of his daughter without considering less drastic options first. And, not to put too fine a point on the matter, but bringing it closer to home, I also do not believe that your doctor would be as eager to part with one of his testicles should a comparable diagnosis for him be pronounced.

It is imperative that we, as consumers, prevail upon our service providers to consider alternatives should we find ourselves in a similar circumstance. In fact, it may speed things along if, when confronted with a situation like this, we would graphically drive the point home by saying something like: ?OK doctor, if you want to take away from me one of these (gesturing to the appropriate area of your body), then I think you should have to part with one of those, (pointing with your finger at his ?family jewels? location). I will wager that a lively discussion of alternatives for this problem would ensue with little hesitation.

There are alternative remedies out there. Find them. It is known, for example, that certain foods, including many vegetables and fruits, may offer some positive effects in the fight against cancer. Dietary suggestions such as choosing most of the foods you eat from plant sources, limiting your intake of foods high in fat, particularly from animal sources, becoming physically active, achieving and maintaining a healthy weight and limiting the consumption of alcoholic beverages, will add to your efforts to achieve a desired state of wellness and avoid diseases. One approach which has not had wide spread acceptance to date but has become quite intriguing, is the dietary use of certain carbohydrate containing plant materials to either prevent or treat certain cancers. There are numerous references which underscore the importance of a diet obtained primarily from plant sources as a major step in preventing cancer, or at least benefiting cancer patients. There are literally hundreds of reports supporting this concept.

Today the prevention of cancer with proper nutrition is widely accepted. It is believed, that in time, the efficacy of these materials in the fight against cancer will be firmly established, and that alternative choices for treatment will be included in the accepted resources for the treatment of cancer. This will help to negate the current propensity to pressure cancer patients into surgery or toxic therapies causing them to agree for fear that they have few, if any other viable options. Cancer cells and the means to deal with them effectively are located within our bodily systems. Those systems need but to be catalytically activated by the proper raw materials. If we are functioning properly at the cellular level, then the growth of cancer can be controlled and held in check from within by natural mechanisms that were in place long before modern medicine dreamed up its current toxic and drastic strategies. So, educate yourself about prevention and alternative options, move your body, eat well, supplement wisely, and TAKE BACK YOUR LIFE!

How The Immune System Becomes Overloaded with FLU and Other Accident

Many people have had root filled teeth for a number of years without experiencing an obvious health problem. Dr. Price found a severe stressful occurrence could so overcharge the patient's immune system activity that they now developed a degenerative disease. The two foremost stress factors proved to be the FLU and PREGNANCY.

During the flu epidemic of 1918, Dr.Price studied 260 influenza patients in five different hospitals. This study was exceedingly difficult because so many were seriously ill, questioning and x-ray examinations were often not possible. Patients were divided into two groups: those having dental infections, and those free from oral problem.

Realizing that under the circumstances numbers of infected teeth must have missed, the percentage of individuals developing serious complications, including pneumonia, emphysema, carditis, severe neutritis, and severe rheumatism, who also had dental infections, numbered around 72 percent, while the percentage of those seemingly free of oral problems but who developed such serious illnesses was only 32 percent.

Among those we considered not susceptible to illness, the percentage of men and women is quite evenly divided. As susceptibility increases, this changes from 50-50 to 93 percent of females having strong inheritance factors and only seven percent for males. Dr. Price's studies indicate the most important factors accounting for why these figures so drastically change are the stresses involved in motherhood and lactation.

Certainly physical injuries, extreme anxiety, exposure, nutrition, hunger, exhaustion, acute and chronic infections, alcohol and drugs all contribute singly or collectively to break a person's otherwise well-working immune system. The presence of focal infection, as we have seen, compounds and magnifies every facet of ill health.

Dr. Price found that many new and expectant mothers developed acute rheumatism during the period of gestation or lactation. A typical case is that of a young woman of 22 years who had a physique and physical reserve well above average. She decided to undertake the responsibilities of motherhood, and the birth of a baby that was unusually robust followed.

When people suffer a severe auto accident, fall, or suffer some other injury, their immune systems are called upon to work at peak performance in order to achieve a speedy recovery. Those people with root canal fillings are generally found to have a healing rate slower than expected. Quite often, the extra stress an injury places on their defense systems allows the organisms to get out of hand and attack some other organ or tussue.

New and expectant mothers having infected teeth frequently developed acute rheumatism. Inoculations from such patients into rabbits produced multiple illnesses in the rabbits. Injury: Those who suffered accidents or injuries and had mouth infections were generally found to have slower than expected healing rates. We all know people who no sooner get over one illness when they get another.

What Should I Know About Hepatitis B?

Hepatitis B remains one of those scary terms that you occasionally hear health care professionals use. You also hear about this somewhat mysterious disease in the media from time to time. But just what is Hepatitis B and what should we know about it?

Hepatitis B is a DNA virus that can be found in the blood. It attacks the liver. A name you may run across is HBV, which is short for Hepatitis B Virus. The term, hepatitis, means inflammation of the liver.

What is important to know when considering how HBV is spread is that, as far as we know, it is transmitted mainly via blood contact. To be a little more specific, infection can occur when the blood from an infected person enters the body. Other body fluids can also contain HBV, but usually in much lower concentrations. It is possible to receive HBV via a bite from an infected person. It is suspected that the sharing of toothbrushes or razors might allow for an infection to be contracted.

HBV is also a sexually transmitted disease. The usual increased risk factors for other sexually transmitted diseases apply here as well. For example, promiscuous and homosexual behavior may increase the chances for infection.

People who are hemophiliacs are also at higher risk as well as those who live with a person who has a chronic HBV infection. Having a job that involves contact with blood can also put you at increased risk for obvious reasons. Drug use is another risk factor.

It is possible for your body to fight off an HBV infection. If that happens you will be free of the virus and you will eventually not even test positive for the HBV surface antigen in your blood. An antigen is simply defined as a substance that causes the production of antibodies. And antibodies are those proteins that are used by your body to get rid of antigens. You might have guessed that a blood test can show if a person is suffering from a HBV infection.

Some peoples? bodies do not fight the infection off completely and they suffer from chronic hepatitis. The virus remains in the body for the long term. This type of person can infect others. Currently, it is estimated that 1.25 million people in the United States suffer from a chronic Hepatitis B infection.

There are vaccines to help prevent a HBV infection and there are drugs that can be used to fight an infection. Interestingly enough, a vaccine can be useful after a possible HBV infection to help prevent the disease from developing. Check with your doctor to get current recommendations on HBV vaccinations.

Often times a Hepatitis B infection can pass without the person even being aware that they had it. Sometimes there are no symptoms. There can also be symptoms ranging from very minor to very serious. On relatively rare occasions, a Hepatitis B infection can cause death, though this happens to a very small percentage of infected individuals.

This article is for information purposes only and is not meant to diagnose, treat, or prevent any health condition. Seek the advice of a qualified medical professional if you have or think you might have any health condition, including Hepatitis B.

Acid Reflux: Study Says Drugs Just as Good as Surgery

According to a study mandated by a new Medicare law, data has come back saying that drugs can be just as effective as even surgery in managing the symptoms of Acid Reflux. This can affect many people, as it is estimated that sixty million Americans have acid reflux (GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease or GERD).

Acid reflux is known as when a person's stomach acid backs up into the esophagus and causes that heartburn feeling. Sometimes it can affect breathing and even cause a person to feel as is they are suffocating. If not treated, this may eventually lead to esophageal damage.

Many people have noticed a susceptability to certain, highly acid foods and often have to avoid these foods to minimize the effects of their acid reflux. If you get woken up in the middle of the night from Acid Reflux, keep a journal of the foods eaten and make note of those foods you ate in the previous 12 hours. Then start eliminating those foods from your diet and see if you sleep and breathe better.

Also... make sure to take the time to relax. Stress and Acid Reflux make for a bad combination and if you can't sleep at night, you'll just get more fatigued with each passing day.

The good news is that the recent data indicates that people with debilitating acid reflux have a choice between taking pills or surgery.

Here's some of the things they found in this recent study:

- With chronic GERD, over-the-counter medications (such as Zantac, Pepcid and Tagamet -- each with their own respected trademarks) are not as effective as proton pump inhibitors. But the proton pump inhibitors can have more side effects.

- The respected brands Nexium, Prevacid and Prilosec OTC are all similar in the degree of effectiveness. And when compared to surgery, they seem to compare similarly in relieving the discomfort of GERD.

If you have acid reflux, the best thing to do is to seek help from your medical professional. You can get trusted advice and then make your own choice. And for some people, their acid reflux may be so severe that they'll need to have surgery and then follow up with medications to really get a handle on it.

Heart Smart is A Perfect Start

Hello again everyone,

This time I'm going to be a little more specific on my subjects of discussion. Rather than take a general look, I would like to tell you exactly how different foods and nutrients can have a more direct effect on each and every part of your body,

Let's take your heart. The strongest single muscle in the human body. What can you do to keep it healthy? First, eat a heart healthy diet. Low fat dairy products, lean meats, whole grain breads,a variety of fruits and vegetables, get fats from fish and nuts, use herb seasonings or pepper instead of salt and most important you have to keep your portions in proportion. Don't over eat if possible.

Now if I may get a little more technical you can break down the fatty fish into the( proven to help with heart disease) omega 3 fatty acids. Also, foods high in C,E and Beta Carotene are good. There are many nutrients proven to help the heart. You will find a list in the book by Douglas Grant called Natural Cures. You can get a copy at our website if you would like.

One of the most important ways to control heart disease is to get regular, blood pumping exercise every day. It gets all the nutrients and oxygen to all of your body along with the fact that you are strengthening your heart as well.

Next time I'll get into the causes and preventions of hypertension and high blood pressure.Until then, eat smart, exercise and stay away from tobacco products and excessive alcohol use. You will feel the difference.

Good Health To You,

R.J.Davis

Root Canal Disinfectants Antibiotics Prove Inadequate to Eradicate Bacteria

The bacteria dentists use to determine whether treatment of a root canal infection has been successful, namely the absence of discomfort and pain; x-ray evidence that abscessed areas, granulomas and cysts have completely filled in with new bone; and trust that the medicaments used in producing these results completely eradicated bacteria, all proved inadequate when such teeth were subjected to further testing by Dr. Price and his group.

Testing for the preseence of bacteria in root canal, after the use of disinfectants which appeared to have controlled the infections, proved that the organisms had not been eradicated.

Dr. Price, in making cultures after the use of over 100 different medicaments, including different strengths of each, found only eight which had negative responses after 24 hours, and only two after 48 hours of incubation; longer periods were found to be ineffective as medicaments lost their disinfecting power.

The two most efficient medicaments proved to be objectionable - silver nitrate because it turned teeth black and formalin because it was very irritating and painful to patients and destructive to surrounding tissues.

Though culturing to determine whether bacteria had been killed was formerly taught and practiced, I know of no dentists using such a testing procedure today.

Dr. Price in another series of tests took extracted infected teeth and treated them (much easier to do aseptically outside of the mouth) and found when these teeth were sectioned their dentin and cementum were still infected.

In still another investigation, Dr. Price made biopsy sections at and below the gum line and found bacteria present not only in the root of the teeth and their protective cementum but also in the first millimeter or two of adjacent bone. The importance of this factor in causing cavitations in bone after extractions will be discussed in a later chapter.
---------------------------------------------------
Dr. Price noted future developments might bring forth medicaments which are more successful. You will all be thinking that antibiotics are certainly the answer. However, antibiotics have not proven able to effectively penetrate the dentin tubules, cementum and adjacent bone sufficiently to eradicate these bacteria.
---------------------------------------------------

Testing of new medicaments, and current efforts such as new laser treatment methods, are of course necessary and were anticipated by Dr. Price.

All of these root canal side-effect problems should not deter the profession from continuing to explore new methods of how to save teeth. While we cannot learn how to save teeth by extracting them, Dr. Price fortunately has shown us ways to test procedures to prove whether infection has been eradicated in teeth we think we have saved.

Ways To Show Your Support of the Alzheimer?s Patient and Caregiver

At some period in your life, somebody you know may become impacted by Alzheimer?s disease. And if it is a close friend or family member, you can display your support of the Alzheimer?s patient and the health professional through many ways. Alzheimer?s can be a lonely disease, but with your aid and support, it does not have to be. Following are some useful tips on ways you can affect the lives of the health care provider as well as the patient with the disease.

Don?t be unsociable or dodge the person in your life with Alzheimer?s disease. Go see them and let them know you are thinking about them. Talk with the health care provider and see when is the best times to visit. Oftentimes, Alzheimer?s sufferers might be more rested in the mornings or right after an afternoon nap. Wearing them out often worsens the symptoms of the disease. Patience and a friendly ear are a must in your visit. If they are still relatively rational, they may want to ease themselves to a caring friend.

Be ready to tell why you are there to visit, if they do not identify you. Sometimes, you may have to do this a couple times during your stay. Talk using smaller sentences and use body gestures like hand movements to make a point in the conversation. While they may not comprehend some of the words you are presenting, many can still translate body language up to a point. Also allow the Alzheimer?s patient a lot of time to answer inquiries or make conversation. Don?t feel unsure about motivating them with a word or two if their train of thought seems to drift.

Express joy and think back about past happenings that you may have done together. They may not recall the situation, but they can certainly savor the story. Bring out picture albums and talk about the people and places in the pictures. Share a function whether it is a craft or a walk in the park or snatching an ice cream cone. Most of all, squeezes and smiles can break through the roadblocks that sometimes words cannot.

Backing the caregiver is all so important. Sometimes, coping with somebody who has a sickness can be lonely and they might feel left behind without support. Give them a lifeline and pay close attention to them. Sit down with a drink and let them talk to you. Help them with tasks. If you are at the store, give them a phone call and see if they need anything. Ask if you can assist around the house, whether it be cutting the grass or preparing a meal.

Volunteer to sit with their loved one stricken with Alzheimer?s so that they can go do something for themselves. Having solitary time is essential for emotional health and they may need the break. Giving them the time works marvels and they can come back to their role as health care provider with more eagerness. Most significantly, keep in touch, particularly if you don?t live near them. A phone call or letter works great and helps the caregiver feel less detached from the world.

Detox Diets

Detox Diets are the last craze in dieting, that?s why the number of people searching for detox diets is growing everyday.

You may have heard about toxins, detoxification, cleansing, purifying ? they are all related to detox diets.

Toxins are harmful chemicals affecting your body. They are all around you (in your food, water, air) and inside you (as waste products of metabolism). Your body eliminates most toxins and the rest are stored within body fat.

These stored toxins combined with stress can affect your health in very unpleasant ways:

- weight gain
- headaches
- feelings of fatigue and weakness
- heartburn
- sore muscles and skin
- joint pains

These symptoms will fade when you start detox. Well, you may feel some discomfort in the very first days, but that is a normal body reaction.

You may feel headache or sore muscles, but that is because the toxins are released faster then your body can eliminate them. These symptoms will not occur again if you detox regularly.

Detox and Weight Loss

Detoxification is the process of releasing and expelling the stored toxins through the elimination organs of your body - the intestines, liver, lungs, kidneys and skin.

Detox Diets are dietary nutritious plans that use detoxification, which helps you lose weight by cleansing out your body and improving your metabolism.

Detox and Disease Prevention

Detox Diets are recommended for improving resistance to disease, mental state, digestion, strengthens the organs involved in detox.

Detox Diets can help prevent serious diseases such as cancer, ADD, ADHD, chronic fatigue syndrome and multiple chemical sensitivities, as well as treat heart disease, fibromyalgia, autoimmune disease.

Detox Foods

Detox Diets recommend consumption of foods that are beneficial for your health and essential to weight loss - organic foods, fruits and vegetables.

You should drink purified water and cut back on processed foods, as well as give up alcohol and smoking.

You should know?

Detox Diets are quite restrictive and once you start a detox diet, you should follow it strictly. Detox Diets are safe, but you should consult your doctor before starting.

Types of Detox Diets

+ Fasting - drinking only water, juices or broths, or eating one kind of food for a certain period of time. Your body starts burning fat for energy.

+ Nutritional supplements ? intake of nutritious powders, vitamins and packaged protein snacks.

+ Hydrotherapy - detoxifying through your skin pores by taking special baths.
